Interview with Angel Valls, Chief Sales Officer at Premium PSU.

Angel Valls: Our extensive range of standard products, coupled with over 900 custom-made designs developed over the years, ensures we cater to diverse customer needs. Quality is paramount in our operations, beginning from design to manufacturing, where we employ the most advanced testing systems. All projects, from concept to homologation, are executed in Barcelona, leveraging our expertise to develop products from scratch, thereby reducing costs and delivery times.
E.E: What are the main areas of activity of the company?
A.V: Given our clientele primarily comprises companies in the railway, energy, and high-tech sectors, our main areas of activity include manufacturing and supplying premium power supply units (PSUs) tailored to their specialized needs. This involves designing and producing PSUs optimized for railway systems, energy generation and distribution infrastructure, as well as high-tech equipment. Additionally, we offer related services such as consultation, customization, and after-sales support to ensure seamless integration and operation of our products within these sectors.
E.E: What’s the news about new products/services?
A.V: We are currently engaged in significant railway variable frequency drive projects, with plans to launch products such as TDS-3300, TDX-3300, and VDX-10k this year. Additionally, we are developing a custom railway battery charger, the 0836, for one of the largest train manufacturers, and preparing a high-voltage catenary input to three phase output DC/AC inverter, the OVX-6400. In the energy sector, we are introducing AC/DC Industrial rectifier systems, FlexStorm & Thiristorm.
E.E: What are the ranges of products/services?
A.V: Our product range encompasses DC/DC converters, uninterrupted power supplies UPS, DC/AC inverters, variable frequency drives AC/AC, AC/DC power supplies, and any solution requiring high reliability, ranging from 50W to 72kW. Premium PSU’s solutions feature isolation up to 20kV, IP20-IP68 products, temperature ranges between -40 and +85 degrees, alarms with dry contact, and sophisticated communications with cyber security via the Internet.
E.E: What is the state of the market where you are currently active?
A.V: The market where Premium PSU operates, particularly within the railway, energy, and high-tech industries, is witnessing notable advancements propelled by emerging technologies like GaN and SiC(Silicon Carbide) technologies, alongside the increasing adoption of active filters. These technologies are transforming power supply solutions, offering heightened efficiency, reliability, and performance compared to conventional alternatives. Moreover, our involvement in the All2Gan project underscores our commitment to innovation and collaboration, potentially advancing Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology’s integration into power electronics across various applications.
E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?
A.V: We actively engage in the custom market niche, catering to clients seeking tailored and exclusive solutions. The demand for cybersecurity, remote monitoring, and high reliability is on the rise, reflecting evolving customer requirements without compromising competitiveness.
E.E: What are the most innovative products/services marketed?
A.V: Nowadays, our 0821 and 0822 power transformation chargers, developed for Iberdrola, a world leader in clean energy, grids and storage, are one of our most innovative products. The aim was to create a new range of uninterruptible power supply equipment that would allow our customer to integrate new elements for low-voltage electrification, as well as to add new functionalities in the transformation centers for the digitization of the power grid. The new equipment allows, by means of advanced algorithms, the monitoring and control of the power supply assets in the transformation centers, always complying with the most demanding cybersecurity requirements requested by the client. All of this provides a greater capacity to adapt the network to any power supply problem.
E.E: What estimations do you have for the beginning of 2024?
A.V: We anticipate a year of consolidation in 2024, with an estimated growth of 14%. Despite operating in a mature market, we aim to maintain our growth trajectory, having already grown by 200% since 2015.
