INTERVIEW WITH MATIC

MATIC was founded in 1969 in Barcelona, Spain. The company designs and manufactures machines for cutting, welding, sewing, and handling textiles. All the machines are cutting-edge technology and with great ease of use. MATIC doesn´t just sell machines, they also advise customers according to their needs and customize machines for each customer.

Easy Engineering: What are the main areas of activity of the company?

MATIC: Although our machines are of wider usage, but we focus on two main industries: digital printing and sun protection. In the sun protection industry, our machines are used to produce roller blinds/shades, exterior screens, awnings, curtains etc. For digital printing, our machines are used for the finishing processes in soft signage production: SEGs (non-lit and backlit), banners (indoor and outdoor), flag, display etc.

We are committed to providing innovative products and high-quality services to contribute to the prosperity of our customers.

E.E: We sell our machines all over the world through our commercial network.

E.E: What’s the news about new products?

MATIC: One of our strengths is our capacity of innovation. In the past two years, we have launched two new products: Perseo and Cronos 4.0.

PERSEO is the new generation of eco-friendly electric impulse welding machine. It is patented for its unique design of using the welding bar as a fabric stop guide. Furthermore, all movements of PERSEO are powered by electricity, there is no need to move any part of the machine by compressed air, which is used by other impulse welding machines on the market. Because of this, Perseo is eco-friendly, and it uses less energy.

Cronos 4.0: This is an automatic sewing machine that can greatly help our customers increase their productivity in soft signage, especially now that many of them are facing a shortage of skilled seamstresses. Because of its innovative features including industry 4.0 function, it won the “Prize for innovations” at the RemaDays Show in Poland this March.

E.E: What are the ranges of products?

MATIC: We offer our customers complete solutions: cutting, welding, and sewing machines, as well as software to increase productivity. Handling equipment and accessories are not the protagonists, but they help a lot to further improve efficiency, that’s why we also manufacture handling equipment such as inspectors, carousel warehouses located under the cutting table and winding devices.

E.E: At what stage is the market where you are currently active?

MATIC: Both sun protection and digital printing markets are growing.

E.E: What can you tell us about market trends?

MATIC: Many industries, including digital printing and sun protection, have been affected by the pandemic, but both markets are now recovering well. We are optimistic about the growth of both markets in the coming years.

Innovation is always an important factor in industry growth. New technology, new design, new fabrics of window blinds and shades will enhance the performance of products, make new applications possible, and introduce new product lines. The remote control, automated blinds, smart blinds controlled by mobile, all these helps attract new customers, or drive homeowners replace old blinds with new products that offer better visuals or improved functionality.

Carbon neutrality has also prompted fabric manufacturers to develop more environmentally friendly fabrics for the market: recycled plastic, PVC-free fabrics. This will facilitate the production of different kinds of sustainable window coverings.

For digital printing industry, our machines are mainly used in the finishing process of soft signage. The main appeal of soft signage is that it uses fabric, so it has a natural drape, is lightweight, easy to install, costs less to ship, and can be folded or rolled up without damage.

With the technology of digital dye-sublimation printers getting popular, the availability of more and more types of printable fabrics and inks, the soft signage market is very promising. It is increasingly used in trade shows and exhibitions, events large and small, festivals and retail promotions in different forms: SEG, fabric LED backlit displays, outdoor flags, and fabric banners.

E.E: What are the most innovative products marketed?

MATIC: As mentioned before: PERSEO and Cronos 4.0.

Our welding machines also got the patent of ¨seamless technology¨. This will create a more pleasing and upscale look as the texture of the fabric will be preserved and be free of a shiny seam that typically results from the heating of the welding process. For soft signage, the matte ink and prints will remain matte.
